Chile/ 8.1 Direct and indirect support to artists

8.1.4 Support to professional artists associations or unions

The National Council for Culture and Arts provides support for some artist organizations and other private organizations dedicated to studies in the cultural sector. The Budget Law for 2013 (DIPRES, 2012) establishes the transfer of resources to private organizations dating far back into the past such as the Chilean Writers Society (SECH) among other non-profit corporations and foundations (see Chapters 6 and 7). Parallel to this, among other available resources provided by the National Council for Art and Culture, there is also special consideration for specific initiatives pertaining to a finite and definitive group of institutions, among which are universities such as the Universidad de Chile and Universidad Alberto Hurtado (through their Studies Department) and even private profit organizations such as the Cultural Policy Observatory. Said observatory receives annual resources to hold and host important debates on national cultural politics (on behalf of the CNCA’s President Minister’s Cabinet).
