5.3.2 Performing arts and music

For general rules regarding the performing arts and the music industry, see Chapters 5.1.1, 5.1.6, and 5.1.7 in this document.

With regards to Chilean music in particular, Law No. 19,928, on the Promotion of Chilean music (Chilean National Congress, 2004a), and which creates the Chilean Music Promotion Council and the Chilean Music Promotion Fund (see Chapter 3) may be mentioned. This law establishes support from the Chilean State for the authors, compositors, artists, interpreters and performers, compilers, researchers on and producers of Chilean music. It also creates the President’s Prize for Chilean Music, recognizing the work of Chilean authors, compositors, interpreters or performers, compilers or producers, in the genres of specialist or classical music, popular music and music inspired by folklore or oral traditions.
