5.3.3 Cultural heritage

The legislation protecting cultural heritage has already been discussed in Chapter 4.2.2. Nonetheless, the legal provisions on these issues deserves special mention, and includes the following:

-        Political Constitution of the Republic of Chile (Chilean National Congress, 2005a).

-        Law No. 19,891, which creates the National Council on Culture and Arts and the National Cultural and Arts Development Fund. (Chilean National Congress, 2003a).

-        Law No. 19,253, which establishes rules on indigenous protection, promotion and development, and which creates the National Corporation for Indigenous Development. (Chilean National Congress, 1993b).

Likewise, other legislation referring to public bodies other than the National Council on Culture and Arts may also be relevant (see Chapters 2, 3 and 4), including the rules and determinations regarding Cultural Heritage Day (Chilean National Congress, 2000), legislation protecting and recognizing indigenous peoples (Chilean National Congress, 1993b [mentioned above]; 1994b; 2001; 2012); and other similar legislation (National Congress of Chile and National Congress Library, 2009).
