Florence Mukanga holds Honours in Theatre Arts degree from the University of Zimbabwe. She also holds a Masters in Arts and Culture Management degree from the University of Witwatersrand.
She has more than four years experience working in the arts and culture sector of Africa. She started her career in 2007 when she joined the Observatory of cultural policies in Africa which is based in Mozambique as a Liaison Officer and Assistant Researcher. Whilst at OCPA she was responsible for updating country cultural profiles of the 52 African countries. She also participated in the implementation of a research project on cultural policies for cities and local communities in Africa and in several meetings of the scientific committee in charge of the preparation for the first Euro African campus for cultural cooperation.
In 2008 she joined Arterial Network as a researcher in charge of compiling an online Arts and Culture Information Directory which was published in print at the beginning of 2011 as well as researching and sending out a monthly newsletter on arts and culture. She also coordinates online cultural policy working groups.
Recently she worked with Nhimbe Trust in preparing a Civil Society's National Plan of Action on the Arts and Culture for Zimbabwe. This plan of action is aimed at ensuring civil society engagement in the implementation of Zimbabwe's cultural policy adopted in 2007.
